The Move Move Collaborative
The Move Move Collaborative is a temporary ensemble. It is a way to make group dance performances in a space that is intentionally non-hierarchical. Participants in each temporary ensemble represent a diverse range of movement artists, dancers, and somatic practitioners.
Move Move Collaborative began as a 10-day dance/movement intensive held annually in Baltimore, MD during June. In the mornings, we trained in workshops facilitated by participants. Then we shared a midday meal, and spent the afternoon imagining and developing an evening length performance using consensus-based decision making.
In pandemic times, we shifted online to continue building community and capacity to listen.
Each year, a different ensemble of participants gathers to share in the following:
GROWTH: We seek to support one another in individual artistic growth by means of curiosity, practice, and fellowship.
DEVELOPMENT: We offer our physical understandings and conceptual groundings in order to develop new work that none of us could make alone.
CONSENSUS: We use consensus-based decision making to collectively compose a unique performance.
COMMUNITY: We see consensus as an inherently radical community-building tool, ripe for shaping meaningful experiences for performers and audience alike.
